Instruments are available for a one week trial. It took my mom 5 years to be able to buy me my first Loree back in I guarantee my instruments to be in ready-to-play condition and top quality. Needless to say, my experience was not favorable, and it is amazing that I chose to major in music.

This oboe lacked many of the standard keys and was in ill repair. We received 6 oboes in the mail and tried them all out. This philosophy arose many years ago when I started on a plastic Linton oboe. I couldn't be more pleased with the sound from these two, especially for someone returning to them after a long hiatus. I think you'll certainly have luck with the Howarth, and if that's all you can get your hands on down there, well, you can't really go wrong : The Marigaux Strasser is also a viable choice in that level of instrument, and I know Australia is very much Marigaux territory, so that might be a possibility as well : Best of luck with your oboe search, and let me know what you end up with!īest, Josh. I'd contact both shops to see if they may be able to swing in a Tiery for you to try out. I've played upwards of 2 dozen examples of each, and honestly, I couldn't really say I prefer one over the other, they're both wonderful.Īnd Brass might have a Rigoutat Riec in stock to try, which is on par with the other two models.
#LOREE OBOE SERIAL NUMBER LISTING PROFESSIONAL#
Thanks, Naomie! I have used a Tiery in many professional situations, and have recommended the Howarth to many students and colleagues in the past. I've been recommended the Howarth S40 and the Tiery E30, which is cheaper than the Howarth but I'm not sure if they have a stockist in Sydney I should like to try them both but what would you suggest? I'm a high school oboe student so I'm just doing exams and playing in the school orchestra and bands so it basically travels with me to school everyday and so I'm looking for a new instrument. An oboe made in the s would look quite different from an oboe made in the last sixty or so years, which is I believe when Buffet started assigning names to things. Photos of the instrument would probably help greatly in giving you more information. Hi there, Nicole! Apologies on the late reply, I was in Asia in August and sort of neglected the blog. Hi there! I have played several Coveys, and I can't believe I forgot to include them! I'll remedy that : Thanks for the heads up, Anon! Hopefully someone will still see this and can help me I have a Buffet oboe labeled as the "Academy Model".Ī website that I found suggests that the oboe might have been made in the s, but I choose not to believe that until I can find more information on the "Academy Model". You forgot to mention Covey oboes in Georgia. I'm not looking for a dark sound, but definitely a reedy sound, not to airy and light like a flute on the high notes, something with a bit of lilt, and thin not wide sound on the mid and high notes. Hey Josh I'm looking for an oboe at the moment Starting lessons in September. You're so welcome! I'm honored that you took the time to read it :- Thanks so much!! Thanks for the fun and informative blog! Definitely enjoyed the read! I'm glad it was helpful! The English horn is my specialty, and I LOVE to talk about it :- There are some really, really great EHs out there that aren't a ton of money, and are great choices for hobbyists and doublers! I now play on a fox and I desperately need a upgrade.Josh, Thanks for offering such a delightful perspective on the "new" world of oboe makers! Eplan tutorialĪnd thanks for the nod in my direction, as well. Is the tuning more to the sharp side or the flat side. I have never tested one of these instruments myself so I was wanting some info. I have heard all good things about it but nothing specific. I was wondering if you have gotten yours yet and if you have, the quality of it. I too am on the list to get a hiniker oboe. Questions questions questions…sorry to have droned on but I am genuinely very interested…I hope you dont have to wait too much longer….

I gather that Hiniker has sensational tuning but apart from that I know very little about them.ĭo they have a thicker wood, similar to the Howarth XL or Loree Royal…thus apparantly increasing the projection or dare I say darkening the sound skating on thin ice there I fear …. Thankfully I have not been dissapointed and feel I spent my money if not wisely but luckily. I would be very interested to see what you think about your Hiniker Oboe. The poor man has been afflicted with injury and illness, so the delay is excusable.
#LOREE OBOE SERIAL NUMBER LISTING UPDATE#
Several of you have emailed me privately, requesting an update once I receive my Hiniker oboe. I plan to check his horns out at the conference.
